Finished my copy edits for On a Lee Shore around one o'clock this morning - bleah - BUT that means that it's probably going to be published on 14th December.

You know what this means, don't you?

*sigh* Promotion.

I promise not to bang on about it too much.

Congrats on getting the edits done. Shame about that p-word.

It's horrible, isn't it? We've been trained since birth not to be boastful and pushy then we're expected to ignore all those years of learned behavior and bounce round going "Me, me, me!" Really awkward.

But I'm still a bit chuffed that I've actually written a whole novel!

*hug* thank you. Now I just need to tap into the market for boys own adventure with a whiff of lavender but very little hammock action. :)

Can I just just quietly appreciate your hard work?

I know it is hard to say 'look at me,' but what you are actually saying is: 'Look at me-- I have something lovely to give you.'

That's a lovely way of looking at it. Thank you. I'll try to think of it that way. If 50% of the readers enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it then it's a worthwhile endeavor.

Wow, that's a quick turnaround.
Excellent! :D

Re the promo: maybe think of it as an opportunity to blog about all the interesting stuff you learned while researching but couldn't fit into the book?

It was mostly accepting commas :) The CMOS seems to require a LOT more than my old English teacher did back in the 60s. Also a few 'gottens' which i sighed over but accepted because British readers will understand why they are there, but American readers wouldn't if they weren't, if you know what I mean.

That's an excellent notion. Pirate food and drink, pirate songs, pirate clothing [real and Hollywood]. I think I could get quite a lot of posts out of those odd bits of info. AND I'm writing about history, yay! Thanks for that.

Oh thank you *hugs* To take Jamie's suggestion, up above, what shall I write about? There's so much piratey goodness that one can't go into detail about without info dumping.

Love the icon btw. I really miss having Paint Shop Pro, as an aid to procrastination. :) "Can't write anything until I've made an animated gif of Desperate Dan snogging Hagid".

I got the icon from the lovely [livejournal.com profile] aglarien. I couldn't do anything like that!

You could do something like where your pirates sit on the great scale of piracy from real smelly ones to Jonny Depp type ones. Or something about that Welsh pirate with the boyfriend. Roberts, was he?

we just received some "letters of engagement" from our solicitor. Made me think of letters of marque...

You've done a great job despite eye probs. ((hugs))

Yay and yay - congratulations!

promotion sounds daunting but if you can think of it as sharing your enthusiasm it might feel lighter - well just maybe a bit

meanwhile feel free to share any promotional blurb in this direction at any time!

and ps do you think we need to buy [livejournal.com profile] mylodon a guide to Welsh pirates - I saw just the very thing in a bookshop in St Davids this year ...

Ooh thank you. It does make it easier to think of it as a general whoop of enthusiasm about the subject rather than a money making venture. I'll be delighted to share blurb as soon as I get it. Frankly the story is History Lite - it's a romp, but I hope it's enough fun to be forgiveable.

Oh, if the Welsh pirate book is the Terry Breverton one ,that history Lite too. Some of his research is problematical - wikipedia - but it's quite a fun read.
