See, there's this spider ...

I only stepped out of the room for a moment but when I came back, there it was on the ceiling vertically above my breakfast.

I am imagining my flist dividing into those who are going "So what? Bon appetit!" and those who, like me, just KNOW that if I reach for my tea the spider will fall on me. There's no question about this. No possibility that it wouldn't. If I try to get my soggier by the minute cereal, that spider will hurl itself off the ceiling into my bran flakes. I am resigned to going hungry.

However, I did steel myself to rescue my computer [I'm still hyperventilating]. It can have my breakfast but it will never have my laptop. There's a new story on it that I need to edit.

I would make a distinction between "ON the ceiling" (okay, although I'd move my breakfast into another room) or "HANGING FROM the ceiling" (abandon breakfast).

Dangly spiders are an emergency, dammit.

It wasn't very well attached *shudders*

And now it has disappeared and I don't know where it went. I'm going to assume it found its way out.

You need one of THESE (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Brainstorm-B2001-Spider-Catcher/dp/B000X26IRE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346744816&sr=8-1)! I am not remotely bothered by spiders, dangly or otherwise, but partner bought me one of these last Christmas (who said romance was dead?!) and I have to admit it's very effective. [livejournal.com profile] eglantine_br has one now too!

Oooh now that looks cool. I might have to get one of those! thanks.

You're welcome. I should be charging that company commission!

Scoop it up in a glass with a bit of paper over the top, take it outside where it can have its breakfast, then you can have yours too.

Ceiling was too high :( Also glasses are see through. I'd have to use a mug - something opaque.

*facepalm* I'm such a coward.

I'm one of the 'bon appetit' school, but still I think it was brave of you to rescue your computer... :D

[identity profile] elin-gregory.livejournal.com 2012-09-04 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I asked myself, what would the spider do with it?

I promise to save you from all spiders in Brighton...

[identity profile] elin-gregory.livejournal.com 2012-09-04 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

I promise not to squeal and flail :)

I have to deal with spiders in our household - even though I'm not keen!

[identity profile] elin-gregory.livejournal.com 2012-09-04 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
You have my respect, sir.

I used to when the kids were little but that tended to be rather terminal for the arachnid.

Well done on rescuing the laptop!

Today I had to rescue one of my colleagues before she fell off the foot stool trying to lean away from a spider that had appeared on a box of stock... must be the weather or something made them come out.

We usually have a tense couple of weeks around the equinox when the spiders are on their way into the house or out but September spider fortnight is early this year.
