Routine

Oh how I wish I had one! The event and the party are over. One went quite well. The other, as with all teenage parties, was both amusing and horrifying. One forgets how teens dramatise everything. Even a simple conversation seems to have been scripted by the writers of Eastenders. Naturally there was drama and angst and people crying in corners. My daughter assures me that that’s how one knows it was a good one. The dog is traumatised and is off his food. So am I.

But it’s back to school on Monday and while my other half won’t relish that, at least it will give the week some structure.

My pirate story has stalled so I’m re-reading it from the beginning to get myself back into the mood for it. I’ve deliberately ignored it because I knew that if I started to read it I would get bogged down in editing it – a bad move when it’s still not finished – but it’s nine months since I wrote most of the early chapters and there are so many details that I have forgotten. The second draft will be so much better than the first!

Also I’m liking my protagonist again which is a Good Thing!

Good luck with the second draft of your pirate story; it is good indeed that you like your protagonist. Hating him would probably make writing a chore.

I didn't hate Kit but I was getting exasperated with him for being so slow on the uptake. Then I realised that he was letting stuff happen to him rather than being the active one. A hero needs to be a hero - he was spending too much time almost being a victim. On the second run through he'll be a lot more assertive and bounce back from set backs with a bit more brio. :D that should make him more interesting.

I know how you feel with the routine. I can't wait for mine to go back to school so that I can plan my day and concentrate on the stuff *I'm* supposed to do instead of juggling my day around their priorities.

:D are they back in school now? I hope so and I hope you're managing some decent writing time in the peace and quiet.

My main problem is that the little bits of the house that used to be my safe places for writing have gradually been encroached upon and eroded away. And now my daughter has pirated my old PC because it's good for watching DVDs. I'm saving up for a decent garden shed and an extension lead!

I've stalled on a sex scene. I don't find them any fun at all to write [because of all the 'eww the dirty fetishising women' controversy] and this one sort of has to happen. I thought I could skip it and go back to it, but it's an emotional hinge for the rest of the story. *sigh* so actually they aren't doing much of anything at the moment.

lol my friend's dad played the best prank ever, when my friends were holding a (crap) teenager seance, he waited until they said 'spirits, show us a sign' then he banged and howled at the door. they crapped themselves, lol
