As of about 15 minutes ago. So now I'm right up to date.

Little snippet just for the heck of it:

"Let me," a strident voice was demanding. "I’ll soon shear this yearling tup then we can get to drinking. Besides, you all fight like girls."
There was less protest than Cynfal might have expected, but when his opponent stepped out he could see why. Firelight glinted ruddy on hair, beard and on the thick thatch on belly and breast as he pulled his shirt over his head. He tossed it back into the crowd and stepped out to confront Cynfal.
"I stand for troop three." He grinned and spread his arms. "Aeddan am I. Aeddan Hen and I have no time for mouthy boys."
Cynfal met his eyes and they held each others gaze for a long minute before both leaped to grab. Chest to chest they heaved and twisted. Feet scrabbled in the rushes. Hands slid across skin just beginning to sheen with sweat. Around them the men of the hall howled. Cynfal rammed a shoulder into Aeddan’s armpit and grabbed a handful of his breeks, lifting. The fabric tore. There was a shriek of laughter.

*hugs* I had a set back today and couldn't write first thing. I'm hoping to get the 1667 though. :D

:D I'm glad you like it.

all the weird names.

I know :( aren't they hard? But there's not much I can do about them since they are named in the poem. To change them would be a bit like writing about the English fleet at Trafalgar being commanded by Admiral Lord Gary Wilson, or something. Honestly I am picking the easier ones to follow. Breichiawl and Gwaeddnerth will get killed off quick.

Heh, I didn't think the names were weird at all! Ripped breeks are never good though ;D

I have a theory that people don't like books with names they can't pronounce. If you can't pronounce it you're less likely to be able to remember it. Taking that to it's logical conclusion nobody would even want to publish this even if it wasn't a confused mess.

But it's fun to write, which is the whole point, and yeah - the names seem familiar to me.

I suspect you are right, but I have spent half my life reading books full of names I can't pronounce so I feel instantly at home here!

Ripped breeks. Hmm. Interesting! No I like it and I've certainly read more unpronounceable names in Welsh historical novels.

Rips let the air in - hygeinic, see. :) Welsh can be a bit heavy on the consonants.

Sheering! Excellent. So you call them tups over your way too? It's a strangely scattered regionalised word.

Tups is Hereford and most of English speaking Wales I think, but there's a whole language to do with shepherding that I don't know well enough to try and reproduce. I'd like to, though. I have a very soft spot for sheep.

We say tups in Derbyshire and Lothian, but some people looked blank at the word the first time it got used at uni.
