Busy week :)
Jun. 2nd, 2012 12:37 pmIt has been exhibition changeover week at the museum, taking down a community art project about fans and putting up a Jubilee exhibition of sixty objects from our collection ranging from Neolithic flints to HM's signature in the town hall visitors book. At least we think it's sixty, we lost count. Might be a few more.
Highlights include a scarlet silk corset, early 19th c, that although obviously for an adult, is too small in the waist to even fit a child sized mannikin, a set of Mayoral robes, including a fetching fore and aft bicorn hat, various socketed axes and palstaves, roman burial pottery, and a stuffed dog called Whisky.
That has been work work. At home I've been limp with relief because himself finally got confirmation that he can take early retirement in July. No more school for him. Jeez, I can't begin to describe how thankful I am. Things might get a bit tight financially but I can cope with that. Jen's relieved too and says she is looking forward to having Happy Daddy back again - a mythical being we haven't seen since she was about 13.
As far as writing goes, I've been contributing to the Torch relay posts by going and reading them and commenting when I remember. If I haven't commented on yours it's not because I love you the less, it's probably because the phone rang or the dog barked and oooh shiny - where was I. I've posted another today but there are loads of others there, some with excerpts and blurbs of stories.
I'm also editing my pirate story and am horribly aware that while I should be cutting it, it's actually growing a bit. I think this is because I was so intent on cramming the story down during Nanowrimo that if I understood something I didn't feel the need to elaborate on it. Also *facepalm* unless I can pull a fast one and try and market it as an action adventure story with gay protagonists, I'm going to have to add sex scenes. Honestly, guys, do you think getting good and drunk before I write them might help?
Just to cheer myself up I'm going to look at this again - thanks to Jo Myles for The Ultimate collection of Hot Shirt-less Navy Guys Climbing a Monument Covered In Lard.
